BRMT
Movement as the foundation of learning

At Lizarra Ikastola, movement is the basis of learning, integrating BRMT to promote motor, cognitive and emotional development in a personalized and continuous way throughout the entire educational stage.

At Lizarra Ikastola we believe that movement is the first language of childhood. Through the body, children explore their environment, develop relationships and build the foundations for future learning. This belief underpins our use of BRMT (Blomberg Rhythmic Movement Training) as part of our educational approach.

The early years teaching team is trained in BRMT, enabling them to observe and understand the information expressed through each child’s body. Using rhythmic movements, gentle massage and adapted strategies, this approach supports motor development, emotional regulation, sleep patterns and a sense of physical security.

BRMT places special emphasis on the integration of primitive reflexes. When these reflexes are not fully integrated, children may experience difficulties with coordination, balance or motor organisation, which can later affect learning. Supporting healthy motor development helps strengthen the connection between the brain’s hemispheres and facilitates key learning processes such as attention, language and abstract thinking.

This approach is preventive, respectful and child-centred, always adapting to each child’s individual rhythm. When needed, it is complemented by close collaboration with families, the school’s guidance department and external specialists.

BRMT is not a stand-alone intervention, but a coherent pedagogical perspective embedded throughout the educational journey. The foundations established in early childhood support ongoing development in later stages, from Early Years through Primary and Secondary Education.
