Primary Education
Development of competences and acquisition of adequate levels of reading speed and comprehension.
Learning, growing and preparing for the future
Primary Education at Lizarra Ikastola supports students from ages 6 to 12 during a key period of consolidation and growth. Our aim is to provide a solid education that addresses academic, personal and social development, in line with the Model of the Person that guides our entire educational project.
Throughout these years, students acquire knowledge, habits and skills that enable them to better understand the world, act with judgement and progressively take on responsibilities. The individual is at the centre of our educational approach, and each student’s learning process is closely and continuously supported.
Holistic development and personal values
In Primary Education, emotional development is intentionally fostered. Students learn to understand themselves better, regulate their emotions and relate to others with respect and empathy, strengthening personal balance and self-confidence.
Cooperative work and varied groupings are part of everyday classroom life, encouraging participation, listening and collaboration. Through these dynamics, students learn to take responsibility for their own work and for the functioning of the group.
Competency-based learning, content and work habits
Learning is approached from a competency-based perspective, while ensuring a systematic development of curricular content. Students acquire solid knowledge across different areas and learn to apply it in projects, meaningful tasks and real-life situations.
Progressively, habits of work, effort and organisation are developed. Students learn to plan, concentrate, persevere and take responsibility for their learning, building a strong academic foundation.
Mathematics is approached in a hands-on and meaningful way, fostering reasoning, logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Creativity and the ability to seek diverse solutions are also encouraged.

Language, communication and culture
Basque language and culture are central elements of the stage. Their use and transmission are continuously reinforced, integrated into daily school life and across learning areas.
At the same time, reading comprehension, oral expression and written expression are systematically developed, strengthening students’ communicative competence and enjoyment of reading.
Social commitment and care for the environment
Primary Education is also a space for learning to live together and participate in the community. Respect and care for the environment are promoted, along with democratic values such as solidarity, responsibility and sensitivity towards others.
Students gradually develop a critical and committed outlook, understanding that their actions have an impact on their surroundings and on society.
A strong preparation for Secondary Education
By the end of Primary Education, students have acquired the knowledge, work habits, autonomy and confidence needed to move on to Secondary Education with assurance.
With a solid academic base and balanced personal development, they are well prepared to face new challenges and continue learning with responsibility and confidence.
